You probably tend to love certain colors, use certain palettes and go for proven color matches. Now it’s time to get new inspiration and luckily the web is full of great tools that can take your color picking to the next level.

ColorExplorer is a comprehensive site that you must visit. Here you’ll find a bunch of color libraries which can be sorted in different ways. You can create palettes on which you then can apply different filters. There’s a color matching tool where you can choose between different algorithms.  And of course there are also a color conversion tool and a contrast analysis tool.

COLOURlovers is one of the most well-known color sites on the web. A lot of great tools are available including the Copasa color palette tool, the Seamless Pattern editor and the Photocopa tools which creates palettes based a photos you can upload.  The COLOURlovers community has created lots of colors, palettes and patterns which you can browse freely on the site. A great site if you are looking for colors and inspiration.

Another great site is Color Scheme Designer. From the nice interface you can play around with matching colors based on different methods such as triad, tetrad, complemented, analogic etc. On the adjustment tab you can tweak your scheme which is a really nice feature. The Page example feature lets you see a preview of a website using just the color scheme you have created. This site just do the job.

Adobe Kuler is another site you will have to know. Adobe’s version of a color matching tool is integrated with it’s community and let’s you match colors based on images or different rules. There are lots of color schemes created by the community which can be edited. A nice, clean and elegant color matching solution.

Now here’s a different tool. ColoRotate lets your browse color spectra in 3D. You can rotate the colors in different ways around three axes and see colors in a new way. With ColoRotate you can actually explore colors in a alternative way compared to the other sites.

Color Match 10K is a slightly modified version of the original Color Match 5K. A nice small color matching tool that matches six colors. It’s simple, but it works.

Ideé MultiColr

Idée Multicolr

Idée Inc. has created the great MultiColr tool for searching images based on colors. Pick one color and MultiColr shows you 50 images from Flickr with that color. Add another color and 50 new images with those two colors are shown. Add up to ten colors. This is just a great tool for inspiration and it’s really fun to play with.
