A new version of the open source 3d software Blender has just been released. Version 2.57 might not sound like much but it is in fact a milestone. This version is the result of several years of development of the 2.5 series including completely rewritten source code, redesigned user interface and bunches of new features.
Most designers and artists know the need for new inspiration. Recently I stumbled upon a drawing program called Alchemy; a small open source application offering genuine alternative painting. With an original set of drawing tools and two colors – black and white – you can create shapes and drawings like never before.
Alchemy seems extremely simple but it is totally intentional. You can’t undo or select or do any fancy editing as you know it from the big image editing applications. But these original drawing tools helps you create surprising results in no time.
A nice handwriting font often gives good contrast to traditional fonts when used in a proper way. It can spice up any poster or logo and bring life to a stylized design. You can find thousands of script fonts and handwriting fonts on the internet in various qualities – here you’ll find 16 free fonts that I have found very useful. Ready to download and use in your own graphic designs.
Texturemate is a new site with hundreds of original textures available. The textures are sorted into categories such as dirt, fabric, metal, sand, grass and so on. The quality is fairly good although some of the texture seems unfocused and blurry at times. It is a nice resource for graphic designers, web designers and 3D artists.
